Yap legislative panel, state government discuss pending measures

The committee held its first meeting in the morning with the state attorney general, the state chief justice, the Micronesian Legal Services Corp., the public defender, the governor’s designee, Yap state bar members, FSM bar members and Sen. Clement Mulalap.

Discussed was Bill 7-91 which will provide a statute of limitation.

The committee met again in the afternoon and met with the attorney general, the director of the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs, the state election commissioner and a designee from the governor’s office.

They discussed the legislation  to amend Title 7 of the Yap State Code.

This will add a new procedure to allow a petition for new election when there is a violation of the law committed during the administration of an election.

The state law only allows for a recount when there are election irregularities.
