Naraja originally sentenced Yasona to 364 days imprisonment, but all suspended, with credit for nine days he had already served at the Department of Corrections facility.
Yasona will pay a $100 fine, a $25 court assessment fee, and a $100 probation fee. He will complete 100 hours of community work service.
Yasona will report to the Community Guidance Center for evaluation on anger management, alcohol abuse, other issues identified by the counselor, and he will complete the recommended treatment.
Assistant Attorneys General Benjamin Petersburg and Eileen Wisor prosecuted the case while Yasona was represented by Assistant Public Defender Richard Miller.
Police said Yasona was arrested last July for punching his partner and chasing his step-daughter with a knife.
Police said Yasona punched his victim because “his name was not mentioned, nor was he recognized” during the defendant’s birthday party in Garapan.
Responding police were met by a female juvenile who told the officers that she was being chased by her step-father, Yasona, who was armed with a knife.
Yasona also threatened to kill his partner, police added.
