Younis heads NMC presidential search panel

“We will regularly inform the public of the process. But the board must also perform a delicate balancing act between transparency and confidentiality,” NMC Chairwoman Janet King said.

She said they must also consult with the many groups that have a stake in the ultimate decision.

On Wed -nesday, during its meeting, the board unanimously adopted a resolution that details the procedure of the selection process.

The board appointed regent Paz C. Younis, the Variety’s co-publisher, as head of the committee which consists of three faculty members, one staff member, one student, one alumnus, and two community members.

“Appointing the president is perhaps the single most important task of any board,” King said.

Prior to her appointment to the NMC board, Younis served as the executive director for the NMI Council for the Humanities. She also worked for the Public School System as a classroom teacher, vice principal, and principal. She  served as director of the PSS Head Start Program.

The presidential search committee’s other members are:

• Clarice Arriola,  president of the Northern Marianas College Staff Senate and the administrative manager for Student Support Services.

• Pam Buckingham, an instructor at NMC’s School of Education.

• Edward C. Camacho, a  faculty member and the coordinator of the institution’s Criminal Justice Program.

• John Manalo, program manager for the Community Services and Personal Enrichment Program within the NMC Community Development Institute.

• Samuel McPhetres, an instructor at the college’s Social Sciences Department. He has taught at NMC for more than 20 years.
