Y.C Bill 12-2 states that all public schools in the CNMI should promote recycling of paper, plastic containers, aluminum cans and glass containers by providing recycling bins within each school.
Each public school classroom must have four small trash bins designated for plastic, aluminum cans, paper and glass containers.
Schools will receive all the money generated by the recycling program as an incentive.
The bill now goes to the CNMI Legislature for its consideration.
The bill’s author, Youth Sen. Yoshihiro G. Yagi, noted that trash in the CNMI is either burned, illegally dumped, buried or dumped into the ocean.
He said recycling the trash can generate 74 percent less air pollution, use 50 percent less water when making new paper materials and save ton of fuel materials such as limestone and feldspar.
