Man, 19, tells police robbery, stabbing was a ‘prank’

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and stabbing, allegedly telling police it was a “prank.”

J-Thony Muna was charged Thursday in the Superior Court of Guam with attempted second-degree robbery as a second-degree felony and aggravated assault as a third-degree felony, both with special allegations of use of a deadly weapon.

According to the magistrate’s complaint filed in the Superior Court of Guam, police on Wednesday responded to Astumbo Market for a reported robbery in progress and upon arrival found an injured man before being told the suspect was being held inside the storage room.

Police met with an employee who indicated that she and a co-worker were suspicious of a male walking through the aisles and looking around. She further explained the male jumped over the counter to get to the cash register before she pushed him away.

The other employee then grabbed a gold club to disarm the male who was wielding a knife. A minor subsequently came to hold the man down, later discovering he had been stabbed.

According to the complaint, one of the employees knew the man with the knife was Muna, 19, because they went to the same school.

Police later met with the unnamed minor, 15, who said he saw Muna approach the store wearing a mask.

“(The minor) told police he went into the store to grab Defendant when he saw Defendant jump over the counter and (minor) was unknowingly stabbed with a knife. Another witness told police (minor) was stabbed in the shoulder where it was bleeding,” the complaint stated.

Upon speaking with Muna, he said that “it was a prank,” the complaint stated, before adding police confiscated the knife allegedly used.
