HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A woman who is six months pregnant had bloody tears coming from her swollen eye as she spoke to police officers in the emergency room at the Guam Memorial Hospital on Monday.
She told officers with the Guam Police Department that Rakitson Bar Attan “had choked her the night before and she began to lose consciousness,” according to a magistrate’s complaint.
During the incident, the woman’s 2-year-old daughter entered the room, which prompted Attan to allegedly release his hold.
He reportedly told the victim, “You are lucky that our daughter came in. She saved your life.”
On Oct. 3, another argument ensued during which the woman tripped, fell and hit her stomach.
“The Defendant then punched her in the left eye with a closed fist causing the victim to fall to the ground and was falling in and out of consciousness,” the complaint said.
At the time of the assault, Attan allegedly told the woman, “Even if I go to jail, when I get out I will come back to you,” the complaint said.
Police interviewed Attan and said he denied striking the woman.
“He told officers that the victim had locked herself in the bedroom and when she opened the door the edge of the door had hit her on the eye and she fell and hit her stomach on the crib,” the complaint states.
Attan was charged with aggravated assault as a third-degree felony, strangulation as a third-degree felony, family violence as a third-degree felony and as a misdemeanor, and assault of an unborn child as a misdemeanor.
