HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Officers with the Guam Police Department met Dec. 15 with a woman who was crying and scared at the Lucky Town Apartments in Mangilao. The woman reported she had been robbed.
Police said the woman “arrived at her apartment parking lot and walked over to the campus store next door. As she was walking back to her apartment, a male came out from behind one of the buses in front of the apartment exit and told her, ‘Give me your keys,’ while pointing what appeared to be a firearm at her.”
In fear, the woman surrendered her keys to the individual, who was later identified as Ken Christopher Arriola Jubinal.
Police were able to track down the vehicle three days later, parked in front of the Bell Tower in Anigua.
Although the suspect was not present when police arrived at the scene, a review of security footage showed three adult individuals and two minor children exiting the vehicle.
One of the individuals was a woman who police were able to identify and speak with on Wednesday.
The complaint said the woman told police Jubinal had taken her and her family to “run errands.”
The woman reported that during the trip, Jubinal told them, “This car is hot.” The woman also told police that Jubinal believed that “someone might be following them.”
She said, “Jubinal appeared to be nervous and eventually drove them to the Bell Tower.”
The woman’s common-law husband corroborated the events and told officers that Jubinal admitted that he took the vehicle from someone.
When police apprehended Jubinal, they said he was in possession of a Hyundai key fob and key remote.
Jubinal was charged with robbery as a second-degree felony with the special allegation of use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a crime, theft of a motor vehicle as a second-degree felony, criminal mischief as a third-degree felony and reckless conduct as a misdemeanor.
He was confined to the Department of Corrections on $5,000 cash bail.
