Woman accused of forging GPA check

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A woman is accused of defrauding the Guam Power Authority by cashing a check she reportedly knew was forged.

A complaint filed against Renee Munoz Leon Guerrero, also known by the alias Renee Soriano Munoz, said she cashed a GPA rebate check that was made out to another individual.

“The date of the check had been altered to July 17, 2021. The recipient was altered to Renee Leon Guerrero,” the complaint said.

The check amount was for $111.23, but that was altered to $1100.23, according to court documents, and the check was cashed on July 19, 2021.

“(The Guam Police Department) verified the signature on the cashed check matched the signature of the defendant on her GPA application,” the complaint said.

Leon Guerrero was apprehended by officers on Friday, at which time she allegedly told police that she cashed the check “because she was having a hard time paying bills.”

Leon Guerrero was charged with forgery as a third-degree felony and theft as a third-degree felony.

She was released on a personal recognizance bond.
