Man arrested in sexual abuse of minor case

RENATO Tabuena, 61, was arrested on Aug. 5. 2021 after he was accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl and exposing his genitals to her.

At a bail hearing on Friday, Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan imposed a $15,000 cash bail on the defendant.

Tabuena was charged with sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree, indecent exposure in the second degree, and disturbing the peace.

The victim, who said she was traumatized by the incident, also told police that Tabuena was their landlord.

Judge Bogdan remanded Tabuena to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing and ordered the defendant to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 12 at 11 a.m., and for an arraignment on Aug. 23 at 9 a.m.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Tabuena, while acting chief prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
