Stein Katosang was charged on August 11 with attempted assault and battery, assault and battery, trespassing, malicious mischief, aggravated assault and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Katosang was summoned to appear in court on September 11 at 10 am in Melekeok to face his charges.Katosang was charged for entering a man’s house and assaulted him with a metal object on September 25, 2008.The police affidavit submitted in court stated that police responded to a report of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon at the victim’s residence in Ngerbodel at 7:39 pm on September 25.The responding officer found the victim lying on his left side with his family members around him.The victim had severe bruises and broken rib.The court document stated that Katosang came to the house and began yelling at the victim’s granddaughter.The defendant got mad because the granddaughter scared his rooster away.The defendant slapped the victim’s granddaughter’s face then left and returned later with a metal object.Katosang attempted to hit the granddaughter with the metal object but the victim’s wife managed to stop him.Katosang then hit the victims’ phone and broke it using the metal object.The victim came out of his room and accosted the defendant. He told him to stop hitting his wife and granddaughter.He turned to go back to his room when the defendant struck him with the metal, causing him to fell on the floor.Katosang continued to beat the victim with a metal object while he was on the floor.The beating was only stopped when victim’s daughter managed to wrestle the metal away from the defendant.The defendant left the victims residence afterwards.
