Man charged with child abuse for hitting baby

SUPERIOR Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho has imposed a $10,000 cash bail on Tienson Peter following his arrest for hitting an 11-month-old baby three times.

Peter, 24, was charged with child abuse, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

At the bail hearing Monday, Peter was represented by Assistant Public Defender Karie Comstock, while Assistant Attorney General Steven Kessel appeared for the government.

After the hearing, Peter was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections and was ordered to return to court on Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing, and on March 7 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.

The mother of the child told the police that her boyfriend, Peter, on Feb. 11, noticed that her son was playing with cell phone chargers and mentioned it to her.

She said she got up from the bed and picked up all the phone chargers scattered around the living room.

She told the police that when Peter took his ear pods and noticed that one of the earbuds was missing, he got angry.

She said Peter then smacked her 11-month-old baby on the face with the defendant’s left hand, adding that she saw her child fall toward the ground face first.

She said she immediately took the baby, held and comforted him while he was crying.

She said Peter walked toward her and smacked the baby again. After a few seconds, he hit the baby again, she told police.

She quoted Peter as saying, “These kids will never learn,” and that she should “shut the f*** up.”

The photos of the baby taken by the mother showed visible injuries, redness and swelling on the cheek and ear on the left side of the 11-month-old infant’s face.
