Man sues poker game room for negligence

DANIEL A. Mensah, through attorney Matthew Holley, has sued Dongfang Trading Corporation, doing business as Happy Poker II, for negligence after the plaintiff slipped and fell inside its wet and slippery restroom.

The plaintiff is also requesting the CNMI Superior Court for a mandatory mediation, and if that is unsuccessful, he wants the court to issue a judgment for compensatory damages, economic and non-economic, for medical care and expenses, and bodily injury in an amount to be proven at trial.

The lawsuit is likewise seeking an award of $300,000 for pain and suffering, emotional distress, mental anguish and diminished quality of life.

According to the complaint, on or about Dec. 10, 2021, the plaintiff, as he walked to the defendant’s poker establishment restroom, slipped and fell on the wet and slippery floor, and suffered injuries.

The defendant operates a poker establishment business where the plaintiff fell, the lawsuit stated.

It added that the premises where the plaintiff fell were owned, controlled, maintained and/or operated by the defendant.

The lawsuit alleged that there were no signs or adequate signs to warn the establishment’s customers, invitees, licensees or guests of the danger on the premises.

The plaintiff said he suffered serious personal injuries which required hospitalization under the care of professional medical staff.

The lawsuit was filed on May 3, 2023.
