Marshalls college names Carl Hacker president

Hacker is not new to the Majuro-based college. He has been the “interim president” of the college since March, and has worked there since 2010.

Prior to taking up a post at the college last year as a vice president in charge of research and development, Hacker was the Marshall Islands government’s national planner for about eight years. He was noted for demanding high standards for statistics collection by government ministries, and issuing pointed reports that highlighted policy action needed by top government officials.

While at the college, Hacker has become known for his aggressive action to develop college programs targeting key community education needs.

Since he took over as interim president early this year, the College has gained endorsement by the U.S. Western Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation body for a new carpentry-focused vocational training program. In addition, the Majuro college is soon to roll out a new maritime training program for seamen and fishermen.
