Meyuns students join the 350 campaign

Alvino Kenty, Principal of Meyuns Elementary School, and the students of Meyuns Elementary School assembled outside the school at 7:30 in the morning with signs and placards supporting the 350 campaign.

350.org is an international campaign which aims to unite the whole world in creating solutions to the climate change crisis. Its focus is on the number 350 — 350 parts per million is what scientists and climate experts say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere.

According to the 350.org website, “If we can’t get below that, scientists say, the damage we’re already seeing from global warming will continue and accelerate. But 350 is more than a number—it’s a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.”

In October last year, 350.org coordinated 5200 simultaneous rallies and demonstrations in 181 countries.

This month, they’re again organizing a ‘global work party’ all over the world. “People will put up solar panels, dig community gardens—and send a strong message to our leaders: ‘If we can get to work on solutions to the climate crisis, so can you,’” the website said.

“We need to help control this CO2 from increasing as it will destroy our environment and the people,” Kenty said in an interview.

“It is a blessing to know that some people care about what others do,” he added.
