(MINA) — Mariana Islands Nature Alliance is excited to announce that its work on the removal of marine debris in the targeted areas of the Tinian Harbor, where Typhoon Yutu caused widespread devastation, has officially been completed.
Together with its partners, MINA’s team has removed a total of 68,198 lbs. of debris from the Tinian Harbor. Through the efforts of this activity, over 90 acres of marine habitat have been restored.
MINA would like to extend its sincere gratitude to its partners and supporting agencies in Tinian. A great big thank you to Mayor of Tinian & Aguiguan Edwin P. Aldan, and his hardworking staff at the Emergency Preparedness Division, Latte Marine Diving & Salvage, Johnston Applied Marine Sciences, Tinian Shipping Services LLC, Commonwealth Ports Authority-Tinian, FPA Pacific Corp, MINA Tasi Watch rangers and volunteers and the residents of the beautiful island of Tinian. Thank you for your continuous support and generous hospitality!
Work on the removal of marine debris will continue in the coming months when MINA, its volunteers and partners will focus their efforts on the coastal areas of southern Saipan.
This project was made possible by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the NOAA Marine Debris Program.
