Minor charged for attacking a sailor with a machete

The Office of the Attorney General announced on Friday that the young man was charged for attacking an American sailor with a machete across the face on August 30.

The Office of the Attorney General said that the incident occurred at night in front of the Imperial Bar.The sailor who was stationed at Camp Katuu was on his way back to the base with another individual.The sailor was seated at the passenger’s side of the vehicle.As he and his companion were returning to the base, his companion was forced to slow down due to the road construction in the area.The suspect had been drinking alcohol and was standing in the road, crossing back and forth.As the victim’s truck passed by, and for no apparent reason, the suspect slashed the sailor across his face with a machete then fled the scene.Police were called and responded to the scene immediately.The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.Police investigated the incident and interviewed several witnesses.The identity of the suspect was later determined.The suspect was arrested later. During questioning, he confessed his crime.The victim was transported off-island for medical treatment.
