Rep. Edwin Propst expressed concern about the impact of the fuel prices on the islands’ utility rates
He noted that the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has stated that the increase in the average international fuel oil prices will affect the Fuel Adjustment Charge effective Tuesday, March 1.
“CUC and gas for our cars are now luxury items,” Propst said. “Gassing your car up with Supreme unleaded is like drinking a Bud Light Platinum in place of your normal Busch Light.”
Reuters reported that oil prices surged on Tuesday as “concerns over supply disruptions after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and related sanctions outweighed talks of a coordinated global crude stocks release.”
Reuters added, “May Brent crude futures were up $4.02, or 4.01%, to $101.99 a barrel by 1002 GMT. The benchmark touched a seven-year high of $105.79 after the invasion began last week.”
