MPIIC approves permits for Delta, Royal Belau Airways

In his letters to Gary E. Bunce, International General Attorney II of Delta Airlines Inc., and Chia-Zu (John) Tsai, President of Royal Belau Airways Corp., MPIIC Minister Jackson R. Ngiraingas informed the two airlines of the approval of their permits

However, Ngiraingas said in his letters, there are still many requirements that the new airlines must comply with, and ensuring this compliance takes time.

“Please understand that this Specific Certificate does not in itself give you the green light to commence operations. There are numerous requirements imposed by other relevant agencies that must be met,” he added.

He said the Certificates were issued with the condition that both airline companies submit various documents to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce within 60 days of the effective date of the Certificate but before operation.

Royal Belau Airways Corp. is required to submit Airmen’s Certificate, contracts with local ground agents, valid insurance policy, operating certificate, lease agreement with Astraeus Limited (EU). While Delta Airlines still has to comply with security program, contracts with legal ground agents, valid insurance policy before it can start operations.

Earlier, President Johnson Toribiong announced that Delta Airlines will start flying into Palau on December 24 this year, with four times a week flight from Japan, promising to bring in another 25,000 visitors to Palau every year.
