Navigator and crew back from Satawal

MASTER Navigator Cecelio Raiukiulipiy, the crew of the Lucky Harvest, and its passengers are back on Saipan, weeks after first setting out to sea to attend the initiation ceremony for traditional celestial navigators in Satawal, Yap earlier this month.

Raiukiulipiy and crew left Saipan on March 30 aboard the Lucky Harvest, en route to the Central Carolines.

The voyage took approximately three days. On Satawal, they were guests of traditional leaders on the island. They returned to Saipan at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 13.

With Raiukiulipiy were Northern Marianas Humanities Council Executive Director Leo Pangelinan, radio host Catherine Perry, local documentarian Lenny Leon, and 500 Sails Director of Sailing and Seamanship Junior Coleman.

Pangelinan, Leon, and Perry accompanied the voyage for documentary purposes.

Coleman, for his part, is an accomplished sailor and protege of the late Grand Master Navigator Mau Pialug of Satawal.
