GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres on Wednesday, in the presence of military servicemembers, veterans, military families and friends, proclaimed May as CNMI Military Appreciation Month and May 23 to 30 as CNMI Memorial Week.
CNMI Office of Veterans Affairs Executive Officer Stanley T. Iakopo thanked the governor for recognizing military servicemembers, veterans, and their families.
“Governor, thank you for taking the time and also allowing this momentous day for us to be here and to carry out your proclamation, also in remembrance of our fallen heroes and those who have sacrificed for our freedom,” said Iakopo.
On May 30, Monday, the CNMI will join the rest of the U.S. in observing Memorial Day, which honors those who have paid the ultimate price in defense of the nation’s freedoms.
“We remember the selfless service of our fallen heroes, we pray for God’s grace upon them,” the proclamation states. “We also pray for all of our military personnel and veterans, their families, and all those who have lost loved ones in the defense of our freedom and safety.”
The governor called upon everyone to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies and activities in support and honor of U.S. troops, veterans, and their families all over the world.
“I also encourage our fellow citizens to observe the month in a symbol of unity for the current and former members of the U.S. armed forces, including those who have died in the protection of our freedoms,” he added.
