THE Northern Marianas Technical Institute and the Guam Contractors Association on Tuesday held an information session for various businesses in the construction industry.
NMTech said the intent of the meeting was to gather business owners, key partners, and stakeholders who have shared goals in capacity building projects within the CNMI as it continues to work toward growing and developing the local workforce and economy.
Over 40 individuals attended the session, including business owners, key partners, and stakeholders.
One of NMTech’s goals is to establish a CNMI Chapter Contractors Association under the Guam Contractors Association umbrella.
The Guam Contractors Association was represented by President James Martinez and Administrative Manager Desiree Lizama.
They talked about the association’s objectives, governance, their committees and membership benefits.
Also present were representatives of the Department of Labor- Workforce Investment Agency who made a presentation on the Registered Apprenticeship Program.
For its part, Northern Marianas College presented on the State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant, while the Department of Labor-OSHA discussed the resources and services that they are able to offer.
In April, NMTech CEO Jodina Attao reached out to the Guam Contractors Association through Patrick McGlew of the Procurement Technical Advisory Center in the CNMI and Bert Johnson of the Guam Trades Academy.
Within a week, NMTech was able to fly to Guam to meet with Guam Contractors Association officials.
Three months thereafter, NMTech was able to host an info session on Saipan.
NMTech thanks the community for coming out and joining the information session in support of a goal that will benefit contractors and the CNMI as a whole.
The technical institute thanked its board of trustees for their support and attendance, and the school’s partners from the Guam Contractors Association.
NMTech offers classes in the construction field including carpentry, electrical, welding; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, or HVAC; construction craft laborer, and electronics systems technology under the National Center for Construction in Education and Research, or NCCER, a nationally recognized certificate in the U.S.
