No schedule set yet for the construction waste segregation stations

Travis August, Koror State Solid Waste Management (KSSWM), Recycling Center Manager said the KSG is still working on the process with the private land owners.

“Once it done then we will start applying permit at the Environment Quality Protection Board (EQPB), building and zoning permit and comply with other requirements.” Travis said in an interview.

He said the three hamlets in Idid, Ikelau, and Iyebukel are private properties and Gov. Yoshitaka Adachi is negotiating with the owner on leasing the lands.

The Koror State has 26 waste segregation stations in hamlets, four in elementary schools, one in Koror State Capitol and five in some parks such as in the long island.

Last March 3, the Japan government through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) granted $38,250 for the construction of additional waste segregations stations project.

This project will enable each household in Koror to segregate waste effectively.

“Waste segregation and recycling greatly reduces the amount of waste being sent to the landfill.” Travis said.

He said with the segregations, it will expand the life of landfill to three more years to use.
