Immigration Director Jenkins Mariur said the amnesty program being imposed by President Johnson Toribiong is to give ample time for the undocumented workers to fix and process their documents but not included in the amnesty the penalty to be imposed if they failed to register on the schedule date for the alien registration.
The amnesty program will take effect on August 16 until December 31.
Under the program all penalties against overstaying workers are waived including the deportation.
Meanwhile, the alien registration will start on Monday at the Civic Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fee for the registration is $25.
The director said any foreign worker, parent or guardian of a child under the age of 18 years old is required to register at the BOI.
He said that only those who are members of diplomatic mission, formally recognized by the Ministry of State and their families, citizens of United States, Federated State of Micronesia and Republic of the Marshall Islands are exempted from registration. Also with the tourists and those aliens present in Palau at any time during the first seven calendar days of August and depart before September 1.
