“There is an assessment made by Koror government on secondary roads that need to be rehabilitated,” said Minister Jackson Ngiraingas of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce. He said they have already submitted a complete proposal to the Japan government via the Koror State government, including DVDs for the rehabilitation of these roads.
“So it will be up to Japan now to see if they could assist Palau to get funding for this project,” added Ngiraingas.
At present the secondary roads in Koror have a lot of potholes. And Ngiraingas said the public works under his Ministry, including the Koror State government, is constantly trying to do some improvement just so it will be passable for vehicles.
“But it costs a lot of money just to do that,” Ngiraingas shared. And they sometimes need to do that every week, especially when it rains.
Ngiraingas is hoping that by April during the next Japan Government budget, they would get a reply for their proposal. He is hopeful that Palau will get favorable reply. If not, Ngiraingas said, they will continue to request for funding.
