Association’s President Uduch Senior and Rachel Dimitruk, Computer Literacy Program Coordinator were present to sign the grant approval at the U.S. Embassy office in Airai.
The small grant program is under the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.The grant will fund the Palau Bar Association’s ‘We the Students Constitutional Literacy Project’.The project educates high school students on the Constitution and their rights under the Constitution.At the end of the school year, the students participate in a mock court trial with assistance from the members of the bar.The Office of the Public Diplomacy awarded about 20 grants in the region under the Small Grant Program.
In a statement, the US embassy said that “the grants are made to non-government organizations with priority given to programs and projects that advance democratic practices, foster freedom of information and independent media, increase transparency in government, advance rule of law and judicial reform, promote civic education, prioritize human rights, and advocate for equal rights for ethnic minorities and women.”
