Guam Representative Bordallo and American Samoa Rep Faleomavaega in a letter to Rep. James Moran, Chairman of the U.S.Appopriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and related agencies, has requested for adequate funding for Palau.
The two lawmakers said that Palau needed this amount to cover the postal services.
President Barack Obama originally proposed an amount of $20.75 million as aid to the island-nation for FY2011.
The country however needs a little over $8 million more for U.S. mail delivery services.
“We want to make sure that FY2011appropriation legislation includes the amount needed for essential purposes in Palau beginning Oct.1 at the amount finally determined by the review to be needed and U.S. mail delivery costs,” the two lawmakers stated.
Palau’s mail delivery services will be affected if the amount is not provided by FY2011.
Palau has accepted a $250 million financial package in January for the next 15 years, the signing however of the agreement is still pending due to minor kinks that need to be ironed out between the two parties.
The amount covers the U.S. Postal Service funding.
