Patrol Division Chief Ismael Aguon said the checkpoints, which started before Thanksgiving Day, will continue until next year.
Aguon said their aim is to deter drunk driving and prevent traffic incidents involving alcohol.
He is encouraging people to drink responsibly and to designate a driver if they will go out for a drink.
In Dec. 2007 a teenager died after he was hit by a car driven by a drunk driver.
In other news, a man was arrested on Tuesday night last week for DUI and reckless driving.
The driver, a 78-year-old businessman, was heading toward Topside when he rear ended and collided with another car in front of the Palasia Hotel.
During investigation, it was determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
In a separate incident, Poker Matsuda Taro Jr., 41, wasarrested, booked and confined for disturbing the peace at a residence in Madelaii.
