“We are here to witness another form of exchange between the Republic of China and Palau,” said President Johnson Toribiong. “Our diplomatic relations is now on its 11th year. And it is multi-faceted. We have conversed together, engaged in the international arena together, and now we will play together.”
It wasn’t the first time that the two teams have played together.
President Toribiong even attributed Palau Baseball Team’s victory in the last South Pacific Games to the help of Taiwan’s Ku Pao team.
Back in 2007, Taiwan sent Ku Pao team to have five matches with the Palau Baseball Team. After the matches, the players of both countries have made huge progress. In the South Pacific Games, Palau won the gold medal.
“So I believe that both parties have greatly benefited from this kind of exchange and interaction,” confirmed President Ma.
For the upcoming Micronesian Game which will take place in Palau, President Ma promised to once again send Ku Pao to train with the Palau team. “As a huge supporter of Palau, Taiwan will once again send its baseball team to practice the game with you,” he said.
Before the game started, Taiwan also turned over its donation of 600 baseballs, 25 bats, 20 gloves, two full sets of catcher’s equipment, 10 helmets to Team Palau and Palau Baseball Association.
In the end, Palau Team made its country proud by winning, 4-2, over the Taiwanese team.
