HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The board of trustees at PBS Guam, during its meeting held Sept. 28, approved a $13,230 raise for an administrative officer.
After leaving a closed session, in which the board spent about 14 or so minutes, board member Maria Flor Herrero made the motion to grant administrative officer Lorraine Hernandez the increase in compensation.
Herrero said Hernandez wore “so many hats” at PBS Guam, performing not just administrative work but also grant administration and other duties. It’s unclear where the raise places Hernandez’s salary. A staffing pattern is on the PBS website, but it dates back to fiscal year 2021, and The Guam Daily Post was unable to obtain an updated staffing pattern.
However, the raise was not the only matter discussed Sept. 28. PBS Guam General Manager Ina Carillo said she and Hernandez have been meeting with the Federal Emergency Management Agency every week regarding emergency government typhoon assistance.
A physical inspection from a FEMA team is expected on Oct. 18 and Oct. 19, according to Carillo, who added that she is hoping FEMA will agree to fund several projects, including the repair and replacement of certain perimeter fences, and the repair and replacement of a storm-damaged microwave and transmitter.
“Also, the hardening of our broadcast transmission with up-to-date point-to-point service, so that we don’t need to be using the microwave. Eventually, we’ll just use the microwave as a backup,” Carillo said.
PBS Guam is seen Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, in Mangilao.
