According to Asap Bukurrou, a PCS Senior Marine Conservation Officer, Dr. Sadovy had worked in Palau before; and has on many occasions assisted PCS in its conservation efforts and research studies.Dr. Sadovy accompanied Bukurrou and other members of PCS on a monitoring field visit to Ebiil Conservation Area in the Northern Reefs, Ngarchelong for the duration of last week.Bukurrou said that Dr. Sadovy provided invaluable expertise in doing fish aggregation surveys.According to Bukurrou, Dr. Sadovy has conducted grouper aggregation studies at Ebiil prior to its establishment as a conservation area; and was much interested to see the results of the conservation efforts since then.Bukurrou said that Dr. Sadovy has done extensive research on fish aggregation – especially groupers – in the Pacific region and other parts of the world; and is probably the most knowledgeable expert when it comes to grouper aggregation.In addition to working with PCS, SCRFA, as stated on its website, works with governments to encourage existing conservation and management measures to protect reef fish aggregations and to raise awareness of the problems of aggregation fishing; and at the same time, built a world-wide database of spawning aggregation date of reef fishes.Bukurrou said the results of the PCS monitoring surveys would contribute to the data collection of SCRFA.
