PCS Marine team consolidates resources

The team has planned a meeting-workshop for Wednesday, October 15 with all of the states marine conservation officers.

The following states, according to PCS records, have designated marine conservation officers: Kayangel, Ngarchelong, Ngardmau, Ngaremlengui, Aimeliik, Koror, Peleliu, Ngatpang, Tobi, and Sonsorol.According to a PCS marine officer, “We want to bring everyone together to begin the initial stages of networking.”The team hopes to build a collaborative team effort in which expertise and experience from the one state can be utilized to enhance marine conservation activities of another state.“There are no walls that divide the states territorial waters,” said an officer. “Marine conservation efforts in the Northern Reefs can benefit from the expertise of conservation officers who work in the Southern Lagoon and Helen Reef.”According to members of the marine team, “there is but one huge body of water – sections of which belong to the varying states.”The team hopes to band everyone together “to be more efficient and to minimize cost.” Anyone interested in marine conservation is more than welcomed to participate in the PCS marine team meeting-workshop for all of the states marine conservation officers.  The meeting-workshop will be held at Longshoreman in Malakal from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.  For further details about the meeting-workshop, contact Asap Bukurrou, PCS Marine Conservation Officer at 488-3993.
