Pohnpeian found in Ngarchelong State sent home

BSP Director Norvert H. Yano said Simeon left Palau together with the Ponhpei State Gov. who also left the Island after attending the opening ceremony of the 7th Micronesian games.

Simeon was found on the reef of Ngarchelong State by Domingo Kerai, a fisherman while he was fishing on Satuday morning.

Kerai immediately reported to the police and transported Simeon to the hospital for medical checkup. However he was released then on the same day.

Yano said that according to Simeon’s statement on May 5 he went out for fishing to Pohnpei Island onboard the boat. While he was in the middle of the coast he encountered a problem on his boat engine until he drifted to Palau.

Simeon’s boat drifted in Ngarchelong State on July 31 and he stayed on the reef until he was found on Saturday.

The director added that Simeon was believed to be dead by his family after the search and rescue operation launched by the coast guard failed to find him.

During the opening ceremony of the 7th Micronesian Games, President Johnson Toribiong presented Simeon to the crowd.

Pohnpei athletes and officials lauded Toribiong and they him gave a warm of applause.

Simeon is the second Pohnpei nationals drifted in Palau.

Last month, Yisrael John Chuuke, an FSM citizen and came from Kapingamarangi island of Pohnpei was found in the State of Hatohobei.

He is now under the custody of Bureau of Immigration after he entered Palau without any passports or documents.
