Power supply returns to normal

Kione Isechal, PPUC Chairman of the Board told reporters that the power rationing will no longer be implemented this week, but that unexpected but brief power outages will be experienced in the coming days.

The power hours were implemented Tuesday last week after an engine at the Aimeliik power plant broke down. The breakdown affected the entire island for a week since the capacity of the load cannot meet the demand.PPUC said because of the engine break down cannot carry the entire power load for Koror State and Babeldaob area.He said the engineare about 25 years old which needed replacement, but lack of funds prevent PPUC from securing a new one.Isechal said there are four units located at the Aimeliik plant, one broke and another unit is being rehabilitated. Isechal said PPUC has come out with a master plan which included the establishment of a new power plant which will cost at least $52 million.
