PPUC explains outages

On June 02, 2010, the first power interruption supposedly began at around 11am affecting areas in Airai State. The outage was a scheduled power interruption necessary in order for the PPUC power plant crew to perform emergency repairs on one of the generators in the Aimeliik Power Plant, UNIT #3.The power outage lasted until 6pm because of a malfunctioned generator part, the turbo charger.

On the same day at around 8:30pm, the outage that occurred was the result of a fallen mango tree in the Meyuns area, across the PNCC facilities next to the National Hospital. The tree which had fallen on top of high voltage distribution lines, kept the power off in the Meyuns area until about 2:00am the next morning (June 03.)Although some areas in downtown Koror and possibly Airai were slightly affected, they had power restored in a couple of hours. The damaged lines in the Meyuns area however, kept line workers busy until the next day.The mango tree was said to be more than 40 years old, this is according to some of the residents in that area.
