John Ngiraked, Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO) Coordinator in the Koror State Government, said the Container Deposit Scheme /10 cent is under the Recycling Regulation.
Under the program the SWMO or the Redemption Center will buy empty bottle/can of 10 cents each. The five cents will go to the consumer who sold the material while the other five cents will go to the Koror State for the operation and maintenance of the recycling facility and Recycling fund with 2.5 cent each.
During the president’s visit, officers of the SWMO discussed the mechanism of the program to him along with Japan Ambassador Yoshiyuki Sadaoka, Minister of Public Infrastructure Industry and Commerce Jackson Ngiraingas, Koror State Gov. Yositaka Adachi and Ninth Koror State Legislature Eyos Rudimch, among others.
Ngiraked presented the flow of proposed Recycling System with the President as well as the financial mechanism of the Container Deposit Scheme.
President Toribiong said he would study the program and will launch a public education program before it would be implemented.
The President visited the Recycling Center of the SWMO particularly the pieces of equipment donated by Japan.
Toribiong observed the recycling process and the way of composting materials.
This is the official visit of the President to the Solid Waste Management Office.
