PPUC to decrease power rates in Nov.

Tmetuchl Baules, PPUC Public information officer, said the decrease of electric rates is in response to the various factors which are driving them to lower the energy rates. These include the price of fuel and engine conditions.

He said that for residential consumers who are consuming 0 to 500 kilowatt per hour (kWh) and with monthly charges of 25.3 cents, the rate will become 23.1 cents based on the new rates that will take effect in November. And for those who are consuming 501 to 2000 kWh with a current rate of 33.2 cents, the rate will be reduced to 31.1cents.

Meanwhile, for residential consumers who are spending 2001 kWh from 37.7 cents current rate, their rate will be reduced to 35.6 cents. For commercial/government /ROP with the current rate of 37.7 cents, their rates will also become 35.6 cents.

It can be recalled that last June, PPUC imposed a power hike of 0.9 cents due to increase of oil prices in the world market. PPUC also planned to have another power increase in the fourth quarter of the year for the repair and maintenance of the power equipments.

However, with the good fuel price and the spare parts donated by the government of Japan. PPUC has come to reduce the power rates.

Last week, the government of Japan donated spare parts for PPUC’s Mitsubishi 13 power generator.

These spare parts will enable for the M13 generator to continue its engine reliability and will extend the economic life of the engine.

Another two new generators which was purchased by PPUC from Japan is expected to arrive on Oct. 30.
