Pre-engineered steel buildings now possible on Saipan

PRE-ENGINEERED steel buildings can now be constructed anywhere in the Marianas and in some parts of Micronesia, thanks to the partnership between Triple J Enterprises and Butler Manufacturing.

Butler Manufacturing is a 120-year-old company in Kansas that pioneered the metal building industry across the globe.

They manufacture prefabricated, pre-cut and pre-engineered building materials that make constructing a metal building not just cost-efficient but fast as well.

In an interview, Butler Regional Sales Manager Scott Wilson said they are excited to work with builders in the CNMI.

“By building with Butler, the cost of labor is reduced, and it speeds up the completion of the project,” he said.

After a builder sends out a building plan to Butler, the builder will soon receive a package ready to be installed on the site.

“With us, the construction companies will be able to reduce the amount of labor effort needed to complete a certain project,” Wilson reiterated.

The building materials are prefabricated in Butler’s factory in California.

“There will be no more cutting, fitting or welding needed since all those things will be done in the factory,” Wilson said.

He said Butler also guarantees the highest standards and quality.

The process of construction, he added, starts at the planning stage when Butler begins working with their client up to the time the building is completed.

“We work closely with the builder and ensure that we manufacture the exact specifications and designs as agreed,” Wilson said.

“And we can guarantee that we can deliver the products within 60 days from the time of confirmation.”

Typhoon resistant and quality assured

Around the world, he said Butler has manufactured several buildings made of pre-engineered materials.

Wilson said their buildings can withstand 194 mph winds.

Moreover, the products that will be used in the CNMI are of “marine quality” and do not corrode easily, he added.

Even the paint that will be used  here is designed for islands, he said.

“Our products have undergone state-of-the art research before we distribute them to a certain area. We have different product qualities that match our market’s geographical location,” Wilson said.

Butler will extend the long-term value of  a building by making it “weather tight,” he said, adding that they also offer a 25-year warranty.

In addition, Butler offers “totally waterproof double-lock roof seams with expansion and contraction provision and insulated purlins.”

Beneficial to the community

“We are excited about introducing the Butler building solutions to the community,” said Dan Murrell, senior vice president of Triple J Enterprises.

“This type of engineering system and the innovation of the technology used will benefit the community in terms of developmental projects,” he added.

Triple J will be the authorized distributor of all Butler steel and metal solutions and will also serve as an authorized contractor to build Butler steel buildings in the CNMI and other Micronesian islands.

“We see a lot of development projects in the Marianas that will benefit from the Butler engineering systems,” Murrell said.

In a separate interview, Gov. Arnold I. Palacios expressed his gratitude to Butler for choosing the CNMI as one of their markets.

“We are excited to see this building technology in the CNMI,” the governor said. “It will definitely benefit the community and our builders here.”

According to the governor, Butler also made the right choice to partner with Triple J Enterprises, one of the region’s leading companies.

“I look forward to seeing positive outcomes through this partnership for future development projects in the CNMI,” Palacios said.
