According to August, it will be expensive for fuel and vehicle parts once the landfill is relocated in Ngchesar.
Earlier, Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce Minister Jackson Ngiraingas said that the landfill will be relocated in Ngchesar State.
Ngiraingas added that the area was already surveyed by the Environmental Quality and Protection Board as well as the Bureau of Land and Survey. The government is awaiting the final approval of the Ngchesar Public Land Authority and Ngchesar Government to form an agreement for a certain incentives to the State.
However, August said once the project is implemented there might be a possibility that the SWM will impose garbage collection fees to every household as well as the commercial establishments. But this will depend on the decision of Koror State Government (KSG).
The proposal for the relocation of the dump site is due to Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) assessment that the current landfill can no longer accommodate waste disposal for the next four years.
Ngiraingas said the new landfill is a state-of-the art solid waste facility. The design was based on Guam solid waste facility. It is a long term used and could segregate all solid waste materials for processing.
The project will probably start in two years.
Meanwhile, SWM is continuing its renovation and expansion of its facility.
August said the expansion of composting facility is already done and they are now coming up with the construction of a screening facility.
He said the projects are funded by the KSG. Aside from these projects, the SWM 30 additional waste segregation stations funded by the government of Japan are eyeing to start the construction next month or before end of the year.
