The committee chaired by Sen. Santy Asanuma has sent letters to business establishments with questions regarding the feasibility of changing the minimum wage law.
The hearing will be at the Koror State Assembly Hall at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16.One of the questions in the letter is regarding whether business activities can financially sustain the proposed minimum wage act if implemented immediately. The committee also wants to find out from businesses whether there are assurances from the business community on hiring Palauan workers to fill the existing positions in the business sector though the minimum wage rate is set at the same level for citizens and foreign workers. The committee said comments and feedbacks during the public hearing will help the committee in the deliberation of the proposed measure increasing the minimum wage rate.
