Mcnally Otwangel and Steven Skilang were charged on August 3 for grabbing a woman’s purse while the victim was aboard a vehicle.
They are summoned to appear in court on September 11 at 9 am in Ngerulmud to face their charges.A court document stated that the purse snatching incident occurred on January 30 in front of The Port bar in Malakal.The victim was seated in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle in front of the bar and was waiting for her friends when Otwangel came over and asked for a cigarette.Otwangel then snatched the victim’s purse out of her lap and ran.The purse contained $420 cash, Nokia cell phone, airtime card, jewelry, Chinese dictionary, passport, working permit, bank saving’s card and peach fruits.The victim’s companion who was seated at the driver side immediately got out of the car and chased Otwangel but the snatcher managed to get into a car driven by Skilang.The victim’s companion managed to get the getaway car’s license plate and reported it to the police.Later that night, at 3 am on January 31, a disturbance at the Bem Ermii in Madelaii was reported to the police involving the same car, the robber’s getaway vehicle.The responding officer found out later that Otwangel had an outstanding warrant for a robbery incident that occurred earlier.Police also found $400 cash, necklace and gold and silver with diamond necklace in Otwangel’s possession.Otwangel was arrested afterwards.The court document stated that Otwangel and Skilang drove to The Port to drink. It was Otwangel’s suggestion that they look for money to buy for drink.
