Melson Miko, PVA community/support services manager, said the tourism awareness week is launched to inform the public about the importance of tourism industry on Palau.
“The PVA aims for launching the event is to enhance and to bring public awareness about the importance of tourism industry on Palau. To educate people because whatever person does it reflects the image of Palau.” Miko said in an interview.
He said that there are many activities being prepared for the event. Some of the planning activities are Rock Island Iron Chef Contest, Singing contest and also the Palauan Night Market (PNM).
Miko said the Rock Island Iron Chef contest is open to all talented cooks and want to showcase their arts and magic in cooking.
The competition will be held on Nov. 19 at the Bethlehem Park at around 3:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. Followed by Palauan Night Market and Singing Contest at 5:00 to 9:00 in the evening.
Miko said they are also looking for the best composer and singer for the PVA song. However no prizes yet have been mentioned.
Meanwhile, like the two previous events, PNM will also launch again to promote cultural heritage (arts, craft and food) and made in Palau products. The event will also provide additional activities for tourists as well as to promote social integration between community and visitors and to provide opportunity for small locally owned businesses to generate some income.
The first PNM was held in June and the second time was in August during the Micronesian Games.
