Rota Chamber of Commerce hosts first general membership meeting

THE Rota Chamber of Commerce hosted its first general membership meeting on March 9, 2023 in the Puesto Grill conference room on Rota from 2  p.m. to 4 p.m.

RCC provided information about its board of directors and the different types of membership tiers and committees.

According to Rota Chamber of Commerce President Steven McCoy, all businesses that signed up  will receive a 50% discount on membership dues for the year while  “start-up” businesses may avail themselves of free membership for the first year of their establishment.

The spotlight guest speaker was Saipan Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kimberly Camacho who talked about the programs and activities of SCC.

 Camacho said she hopes that the information shared will encourage the Rota business community to support the continued development of the Rota Chamber of Commerce.

She added that SCC is dedicated to supporting RCC.

Also in attendance was SCC board member Alex Sablan who talked about the CW touchback provision that will take effect on Sept. 30, 2023.

Sablan invited the Rota business community to join the SCC Tourism and Commerce Committee meeting set for Monday, March 13, which will discuss and share ideas on action regarding the touchback legislation, the CW1 quota reset legislation, current CW1 and visa regulations and processes, among other items.

RCC’s special guest speaker, Rota Mayor Aubry Hocog, shared her plans for the municipality which include infrastructure projects and local appropriation.

She also mentioned the different Rota grant proposals submitted and in progress as well as the island’s current labor issues and lack of certified instructors.

Mayor Hocog said she is collaborating with  Northern Marianas Technical Institute Chief Executive Officer Jodina Attao in developing certification for instructors on Rota for various trades needed on island.
