RP embassy lobbies to change SS law

Philippine Ambassador Ramoncito Marino, during a courtesy call to members of Olbiil Era Kelulau recently asked lawmakers to consider changing the law on the process in which Filipino retirees can obtain their SS benefits.

Marino said instead of Filipino retirees having to fly back to Palau to receive their pensions, the money can be sent to them to the Philippines via the embassy here.Marino said, the Philippines government is hopeful that this matter can be considered seriously by the Palau government.There are over 5,000 Filipino workers in Palau.The Filipinos make up the largest foreign workers in Palau.Earlier, President Johnson Toribiong announced that he has invited Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to visit the country.Toribiong is confident that Arroyo will accept the invitation and visit Palau in October or during the Independence Day celebration.
