THE Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation on Wednesday confirmed the reappointments of two Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance board members and approved the appointment of a new member.
All of the 12 Saipan delegation members present voted yes to approve the Judiciary and Governmental Operations Committee’s recommendation to confirm the reappointments of Kaelani Marie Babauta Demapan and Raymond M. Muna, and the appointment of Henry Kyle B. Hofschneider to the SHEFA board of directors.
The new board member, Hofschneider, 22, is a graduate of Oregon State University where he majored in economics and political science.
SHEFA board chairman Oscar M. Babauta expressed his sincerest appreciation and humble gratitude to the delegation’s JGO committee chaired by Sen. Edith Deleon Guerrero for an expeditious process and for conducting public hearings on the nominations submitted by Saipan Mayor David Apatang.
With the confirmation of three board members, Babauta said SHEFA can move forward.
He noted that the fall semester is approaching and many secondary education recipients will “walk through the doors of SHEFA’s office.”
Henry Hofschneider, special assistant to the Saipan mayor, thanked the delegation on behalf of Mayor David M. Apatang for acting expeditiously on the nominations after conducting public hearings.
On behalf of the students who benefit from the program, he said the mayor can’t thank the delegation members enough for their sincere commitment and care for the students who are provided scholarship funding year after year.
SHEFA is funded by the government’s annual poker license fee collections.
