Saipan Eagles Club ‘adopts’ Gualo Rai basketball court

THE Saipan Eagles Club will maintain and improve the Gualo Rai basketball court as part of Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho’s adopt-a-place program.

Camacho expressed his gratitude to the organization for “truly caring for the community.”

He added, “I admit that I need help. I cannot do it alone,” referring to the beautification of the island.

Camacho said there are several other basketball courts that need to be maintained.

“Sports and recreation are very important for our youth,” he said.

In a separate interview, Rep. John Paul Sablan echoed the mayor’s statement and thanked the Saipan Eagles Club for adopting the Gualo Rai basketball court.

“The adopt-a-place program helps the government in these financially challenging times,” Sablan said.

He added that sports activities can also help the youth and other community members stay healthy and avoid lifestyle diseases.

Rep. Malcom Omar is likewise grateful to the Saipan Eagles Club.

“This commitment is great. It is an opportunity for the community to truly come together and work toward our common goal. I like what they did, and I am grateful for that,” he said.

He is encouraging other community groups to also adopt a place.

Saipan Eagles Club President Dennis Cortez, for his part, thanked the Saipan Mayor’s Office for giving them the opportunity to help the community by adopting the basketball court.

“We want to improve this area by constructing facilities that will ensure that it is a safe place for the youth and everyone who plays basketball or other sports events,” he said.

“It is not just the cleaning and maintenance that we want to do here, but we have a plan to further improve the place,” he added. “Funding will depend on our members as well as on our fundraising projects.”
