ON Wednesday, June 7, 2023, Saipan Mayor Ramon Blas Camacho established a partnership with the 19th CNMI Youth Congress.
This is the first time a working partnership of this kind has been established between the mayor of Saipan and our local youth leaders.
Mayor Camacho recognized the opportunity to provide mentorship and guidance for our youth leaders through inclusivity in the programs that are facilitated under the mayor’s office as well as allowing our youth leaders to take a more visual leadership role to inspire our local youth.
The mayor emphasized the importance of an active and physical lifestyle for the youth especially in this day and age.
He believes in developing the health and wellbeing of our youth through physically active sports and games a sentiment echoed by the Youth senators.
In their discussions, the 19th CNMI Youth Congress shared some goals and inquired about Mayor RB’s insights and recommendations on how to be effective leaders as they embark on their roles and determination to improve the quality of life in our youth.
One idea shared by Youth Senator Aiden C. Yumul was that he wanted to invest more efforts into cultural preservation.
The youth senator added that he wanted to create more opportunities where our youth can expand their knowledge in our culture such as our language and traditions.
Youth Sen. Filomenaleonisa Iakopo also shared her ideas such as creating a track and field program for our youth to take part in to encourage physical fitness and mental health.
An avid athlete herself, Youth Senator Iakopo stated that she will be assisted by a two-time Olympian champion who will provide their expertise and knowledge in the sport.
The mayor and the youth senators also discussed the different programs the Youth Congress hoped to establish and the different goals they hope to accomplish in their tenure.
The mayor gave his full support to the youth senators and their initiatives. Both sides discussed ways in which they could cooperate with their respective programs to create new opportunities for our local youth.
Mayor RB Camacho and the 19th CNMI Youth Congress agreed to establish a new working partnership and to further cooperate on future initiatives for the youth of the Commonwealth.
