(SMO) — The 19th CNMI Youth Congress hosted the first ever Youth Summer Sports Blitz program at the Oleai Sports Complex, spearheaded by Youth Senator and Chair of the Sports and Recreation Committee Filomenaleonisa Iakopo.

The program’s main goal is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle specifically amongst our local youth through the universal pastime of sports.

A total of 50 youth participants, ages ranging from 10 to 17 years old, took part in various exercises and sports activities such as soccer, volleyball, basketball and track, under the supervision of expert trainer Peter Pulu, a two-time Olympian champion with expertise in track racing and physical fitness.

“I believe in promoting a physically active and a healthy lifestyle for our youth,” Saipan Mayor Ramon Jose “RB” Blas Camacho said.

“By investing, supporting, and empowering our youth, we contribute to their personal development, education, and overall well-being,” he added.

“It is not only about providing the financial resources; it is about the impact that lies within activities such as the Youth Summer Sports Blitz Program. I will continue to support youth programs like this because it prevents obesity, diabetes, and other noncommunicable diseases,” the mayor said.

He talked to the kids about the importance of their health and lifestyle and encouraged them to become more involved in physical activities such as sports to not only benefit themselves but to set an example for their peers in the community.

Mayor Camacho would like to extend his gratitude to the 19th CNMI Youth Congress for creating and hosting the event for their fellow youths. He would also like to thank the coaches and volunteers for lending their expertise and skills to the program and the other program sponsors, the Office of Youth Affairs, Run Saipan, and Tupu Cane Juice for lending their support to the event.
