(Commonwealth Utilities Corp.) — The demolition of the 0.5-million-gallon steel tank located behind the San Vicente Church, is currently being prepared for the construction of new 0.75-million-gallon concrete pre-stressed water tank. This project aims to provide a resilient and reliable water distribution system with a newer, more rigid pre-stressed concrete tank, which has lower operation and maintenance cost.

About the project
In June 2020, CUC awarded the construction contract to GPPC, Inc. (prime contractor) and is funded through a grant from the U.S Environmental Protection Agency.
The first phase of the construction began in Dec. 2020 with the installation of temporary tank, piping and connections. GPPC and CUC are currently filling the 70,000-gallon temporary tank. After disinfection is completed and passes bacteriological testing, appropriate free-chlorines residual and all other required testing procedures; the temporary water storage tank will then be integrated into the system and is scheduled for this Friday, Jan. 29, 2021. Temporarily servicing the area until the project completion date in Sept. 2021.
CUC would like to inform the public that the existing 0.5 MG steel tank lead-paint sampling test resulted in the need to dispose of demolished materials as lead containing materials. Thus, APEC, the sub-contractor for tank demolition, established a lead compliance plan for the safe handling of lead containing materials during tank demolition.
CUC will be providing constant updates to the public and the residents in San Vicente, Papago (along Isa Drive), Laulau, Tuturam, Upper Dandan Homestead, Obyan and Naftan areas regarding the entire construction and any adjustments on water distribution during the new tank construction phase.
