Seeds of Promise to get 12K grant from Rotary

Rotary Club President Thomas Schubert signed the Rotary Foundation Grant Agreement on Wednesday during the Rotary Club’s weekly meeting.

Seeds of Promise Palau Inc. President Lorraine Rivera and Vice President Veronica Fox were there to witness the signing of the agreement.Schubert said the mini bus will be a wheelchair accessible so that it can also transport wheelchair-bound people and elderly for occupational activities.Rotary Club of Palau and Rotary Club of Sainan, Tokyo applied for the matching grant to purchase the mini bus.Fox and Rivera thanked the Rotary for the support saying the bus will be a perfect addition to support ongoing programs.SOPP was established in 2007 and has engaged in health and educational programs.Among the community classes that SOPP conducts include Aerobics, Kickboxing, Yoga, Belly Dancing and Summer Sports Camps.Fox said these activities help improve the quality of life for community.Schubert for his part thanked Fox and Lorraine Rivera for the important and wonderful work by their organization within the Palau community and said he is confident that the wheelchair-accessible mini bus will be put to best use by “Seeds of Promise” upon its’ arrival in Palau.“The humanitarian aspect of this project is certainly the main focus of Rotary Clubs involvement,” Schubert said.“Through the Rotary Foundation, this global community service network conducts educational and humanitarian activities to further international understanding and peace and improve the human condition,” Schubert added.He further stated that since 1947 the Rotary Foundation has spent over US$990 million on similar community-based programs.

The project was made possible through the active assistance of Rotary Club of Palau’s good friends from the Rotary Club of Sainan, Tokyo, Rotary District 2750, and the Rotary Foundation.
