Seid met the prime minister at the Asian Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union meeting this year in Nara, Japan.
“Palau has a unique relationship with Japan and a long history of friendship and cooperation- Our relationship will surely strengthen further under your leadership. Japan, too, will be enriched by your guidance,” Seid said in his letter.Seid said Palau can work with the Japan on regional issues such as climate change, sustainable fishing and trade.A Senate resolution was adapted recently to “recognizing and congratulating the new Prime Minister Taro Aso and members of his cabinet.” The Senate also congratulated the cabinet members that Aso appointed after assuming his post. Aso was elected as a member of the House of Representatives in October 1979, and has since been re-elected eight times. In 1988, he became Parliamentary Vice Minister for Education.He joined the Cabinet of Junichiro Koizumi in 2003 as Minister of Internal Affairs, Posts and Communications. On October 31, 2005, he became Minister for Foreign Affairs.Aso was one of the final candidates to replace Koizumi as prime minister in 2006, but lost the internal party election to Shinzo Abe by a wide margin.
